Bis 2012 hat das Deutsche Technikmuseum in Berlin einen Nachbau des Z3 Computers, einem von Konrad Zuse 1941 entwickelten Zustandsautomaten beherbergt. Das ausgestellte Modell wurde von ihm und seinem Sohn, Prof. Horst Zuse, mit hunderten von Telefonrelais nach den Plänen des Originals nachgebaut.
In unregelmäßigen Abständen führte sein Sohn das Gerät vor und beantwortete Fragen. Mein Freund Julle und ich wollten uns diese Chance nicht nehmen lassen, an einer dieser Vorführungen teilzunehmen, bevor der Computer an das nächste Museum weitergereicht wird.
Beim Z3 werden die Eingaben zwar über Dezimalzahlen getätigt, die Ausgabe erfolgt jedoch in binär. Wenn die Eingabe erfolgt ist und die Verarbeitung startet, beginnt der Rechner mit einem lauten Klackern die einzelnen Relais umzulegen. Bei einem Rechenvorgang jedoch war eines der Ergebnisse nicht mit der ausgehenden Aufgabe vereinbar (auch wenn man hohe Werte für die Werte nahm). Mit einem routinierten Griff änderte Horst das Ergebnis, noch bevor ein Großteil der Zuschauer mitbekam, dass der Ursprungswert falsch war.
Nach dem Vortrag konfrontierten wir ihn mit unserer Entdeckung und er war zunächst erstaunt, dass überhaupt jemandem aufgefallen war, dass da etwas nicht stimmte. Er gestand uns jedoch, dass irgendwo ein Relais klemmt, er aber noch nicht die Muse, bzw. die Zeit gefunden hat, dieses zu suchen (Zugegeben verständlich, schau dir mal den Plan an, das sind echt viele Dinger).
Nachdem alle gegangen waren und der normale Museumsbetrieb wieder in Schwung gekommen war, wollten wir aber nun feststellen, wie er die Ausgabe so schnell manipulieren konnte. Da fiel uns eine Klappe an der Seite des Rechners auf. Kurzum, entschieden wir, dass das Verbot des Anfassens weniger Gewicht als unser Wissensdurst hat und wir hoben die Platte an. Darunter kam ein riesiges Tastenfeld im Zahlenbereich zwischen 1 und 60 zum Vorschein, mit dem offensichtlich die Manipulationen vorgenommen werden sollten. Bis 2⁶ ist er also erstmal save und kann die Zuschauer „täuschen“.
Ich frage mich ja, ob das Problem mit dem defekten Relais bereits gelöst wurde. Eigentlich könnte ich ja mal nachsehen. Der Z3 befindet sich wieder in Berlin und Prof. Horst Zuse hält wieder regelmäßig Vorträge dazu. Die Vorführungen sind immernoch kostenfrei, nur die Kosten für den Eintritt fallen an.
